During the past few days, Queen Elizabeth II opened the Jubilee Gardens on the site where the Festival of Britain was held in 1951. The Jubilee Gardens were created to mark the 60-year reign of the Queen. She also visited the British Film Institute (BFI) in London where she saw home movies of her and a young Prince Charles and Princess Anne. The movies were shot by the Duke of Edinburgh in the 1950s and will be digitized by the BFI. Queen Elizabeth II also paid a visit to Romford in Essex where she officially opened The Drapers’ Academy in Harold Hill. Photos by Bauer Griffin and Getty Images.
Princess Madeleine of Sweden, the youngest child of King Carl XVI and Queen Silvia is officially engaged to Chris O’Neill, a British-American financier based in New York. Thirty-year-old Madeleine met thirty-eight-year old Chris in New York city where she works for the World Childhood Foundation, a non-profit organization founded by Queen Silvia. Chris O’Neill obtained a bachelor’s degree in international relations from Boston University and a master’s degree in business from Columbia University. In a video released by the Swedish court, Chris said, “Madeleine and I have known each other for two years and I recently summoned up the courage to ask her to marry me. Thankfully, she said yes.” In 2010, Princess Madeleine broke off an engagement and so it’s hoped that this time round, a happier ending will take place. The wedding is expected to take place in the summer of 2013. Photos: Kungahuset.se.
