ROYAL WEDDING IN LUXEMBOURG AS PRINCE GUILLAUME MARRIES COUNTESS STEPHANIE DE LANNOY Part I
Luxembourg rejoiced as a glittering royal wedding took place in their midst, when the heir to the throne, thirty-year old Prince Guillaume married twenty-eight-year old Belgian-born Countess Stephanie de Lannoy, on October 20, 2012. The civil ceremony had taken place the day before in the Hotel de Ville. A day later, the Roman Catholic ceremony took place in the Cathedral of Notre Dame, which was profusely decorated with flowers for the occasion. Stephanie walked up the aisle escorted by her brother, Count Jehan de Lannoy, as her 90 year old father, Count Philippe de Lannoy, is frail. Stephanie looked every inch the princess bride in a beautiful gown and veil, a confection in ivory lace, embroidered with crystals and shot through with silver thread, designed by Elie Saab. Securing her veil in place was a diamond and platinum de Lannoy family tiara. Various family members made up the bridal party, including the groom’s sister, Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg. A minute’s silence was devoted to the memory of the bride’s mother, the late Countess Alix de Lannoy, who died in August. Prince Guillaume, the eldest child of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, is the last direct heir among the reigning European royals to marry. Photos by direct handout/Getty Images.
