KING FELIPE OF SPAIN & QUEEN LETIZIA VISIT SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA

Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia visited Santiago de Compostela, Spain on July 25, 2014.   Every year the northern Spanish city celebrates the feast day of St. James, its patron saint.  The city is a popular destination for tens of thousands of pilgrims.  This year the king and queen visited Santiago de Compostela not only to celebrate the feast day of Saint James, but also to remember the victims of the fatal rail crash of 2013 that killed 79 pilgrims on their way to the city.  Photos by Getty Images.

KING FELIPE AND QUEEN LETIZIA OF SPAIN VISIT PARIS

Spain’s King Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letizia, paid an official visit to Paris on July 22, 2014.  They were welcomed by French President Francois Hollande to the Elysee Palace where an official luncheon was held in the couple’s honor. King Felipe and Queen Letizia, who ascended the throne in June, have paid official visits to the Vatican, Portugal, Morocco, and now France.   Photos by Getty Images.

BELGIAN ROYALS CELEBRATE BELGIUM’S NATIONAL DAY

King Philippe and Queen Mathilde of the Belgians celebrated Belgium’s National Day on July 21, 2014.  The day before the couple was present at the Bal Nationale.  On the 21st, the king and queen with their children, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Gabriel, Prince Emmanuel and Princess Eleanore, were at Place des Palais where they presided over the annual military parade.  Photos by Getty Images.

KING WILLEM-ALEXANDER AND QUEEN MAXIMA MEET RELATIVES OF MH17

King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima of the Netherlands met in private with family members and friends of those who were killed on Malaysia Airlines Flight 17.  The couple personally expressed their condolences in Utrecht on July 21, 201 and were accompanied by Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte.  Of the numerous nationalities on board the flight, 193 were Dutch nationals.  The king also gave a televised address to the nation in which he spoke of “this terrible tragedy (that) has left a deep wound in our society.  King Willem-Alexander went on to state that “the scar will be visible and tangible for years to come.”  He also stated that he and his wife were “deeply touched by the distressing personal stories of people who lost loved ones … people whose lives are shattered … Their grief, powerlessness and desperation cuts to our souls.”  Photos by Getty Images.

THE BELGIAN ROYAL FAMILY IN BLANKENBERGE, BELGIUM

THE BAPTISM OF PRINCESS AMALIA, DAUGHTER OF PRINCE FELIX OF LUXEMBOURG

Princess Amalia Gabriela Maria Teresa, daughter of Prince Felix of Luxembourg, and his wife, Princess Claire, and granddaughter of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, was baptized on July 12, 2014.  The baptism of Princess Amalia, who was born on June 30th in Luxembourg, took place at the San Ferreol Chapel in Lorgues, France.  In attendance were both sets of grandparents, as well as various close family members.  Photos by Getty Images.
