The Belgian royal family commemorated the twentieth anniversary of the death of King Baudouin by attending a Mass in Brussels at the Cathedrale des Saints-Michel-et-Gudule on July 31, 2013. In attendance were the country’s new monarchs, King Philippe and Queen Mathilde; Prince Lorentz and Princess Astrid; Prince Laurent and Princess Claire; King Albert, and his wife, Queen Paola; and King Baudouin’s widow, Queen Fabiola. Baudouin was King of the Belgians from 1951 until his death in 1993 and was succeeded by his brother, Albert II, who in turn, abdicated ten days ago in favor of his son, Philippe. The Duchess of Cambridge left St. Mary’s Hospital in Paddington on July 23, 2013, a day after giving birth to a her first child, a son. Accompanied by the Duke of Cambridge, the new mother, dressed in a blue and white polka-dot dress, was all smiles. Facing a barrage of media, Catherine and William answered questions from them with William joking that his son has more hair than him. He also said that he and Catherine had not yet decided on a name for the infant prince. The Duke of Cambridge carried his infant son in a car seat and placed him in a waiting car. A son has been born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. The baby, born at 4:24 p.m. BST at St. Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, London, the same hospital where Prince William was born in 1982, weighed 8 lbs. 6 oz., and is third in line to the throne. The official announcement was posted on an easel outside Buckingham Palace states, and stated that the duchess was safely delivered of a son and that both mother and child are well. It was announced that “The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.” Photos by PacificCoastNews.
