King Philippe of the Belgians and his wife, Queen Mathilde, were on a recent official visit to Berlin, Germany and Rome, Italy. While in Berlin to attend a Belgian-German conference the couple met with German President Joachim Gauck and with Chancellor Angela Merkel. The Duchess of Cambridge made two recent official appearances. On February , 2014 she attended a fund raising gala at the National Portrait Gallery in London. Wearing a gown from one of her favorite designers, Jenny Packham, Catherine also wore an elaborate Cartier diamond necklace lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II. The elaborate necklace was given to the then Princess Elizabeth upon her marriage in 1947 by the Nizam of Hyderabad. The duchess also opened the new ICAP Art Room at Northholt High School in London. The Duke of Cambridge and Prince Harry in the meantime, along with members of the Household Cavalry, helped with flood relief efforts by laying sandbags in Datchet near Windsor on St. Valentine’s Day.
