In sumptuous display of pomp and pageantry, Queen Elizabeth II attended the State Opening of Parliament on June 4, 2014 in London. The queen, accompanied by the Duke of Edinburgh, rode from Buckingham Palace to the Houses of Parliament in splendor in the new Diamond Jubilee state coach. The coach, built and crafted in Australia, has been made incorporating donated historic pieces. Among the historic items used are window frames and interior panels from Canterbury Cathedral; handrails from the royal yacht, Britannia; wood from the birthplace of Sir Isaac Newton; while the crown on the roof was carved out of oak from Admiral Nelson’s ship, the HMS Victory.
