Prince Harry honored the military dead during a visit to Monte Cassino in Italy on May 18, 2014. The prince was present to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Monte Cassino, which proved to be one of the most significant and bloodiest battles during the Italian Campaign of World War II. The battle was fought at the strategically important monastery perched above the Italian town of Cassino.
