Queen Elizabeth II, as Sovereign Head of the military order and the Prince of Wales, as Grand Master, attended the Order of the Bath Service at Westminster Abbey. This year the 88 year old monarch scaled back slightly on her ceremonial role, allowing her son and heir to have a more prominent role. The queen opted not to descend a steep flight of stairs while dressed in evening gown and full regalia. The Order of the Bath dates to 1725, and the ceremony, which takes place in the abbey, is infused with color, pomp, and tradition. Photos by Getty Images.
