In a historic ceremony at the Vatican, Pope Francis presided over the Mass and canonization ceremony of Pope John XXIII and Pope John Paul II. Also present was Pope Emeritus Benedict. Among members of royalty attending the ceremony were the former King Albert II of the Belgians and Queen Paola, the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia of Spain, and Prince Hans Adam and Princess Marie of Liechtenstein. The Queen of Spain, Queen of the Belgians, and Grand Duchess of Luxembourg exercised their privilege of wearing white (the privilege du blanc) which allows certain Roman Catholic sovereigns to wear the color in the presence of the Pope.
