King Willem-Alexander of The Netherlands and Queen Maxima in a day full of pomp and splendor, presided over Prinsjesdag (Prince’s Day) 2013, on September 17, 2013, their first as monarchs. The couple arrived at the Ridderzaal in The Hague, Netherlands, having traveled in an ornate carriage. At the Ridderzaal, King Willem-Alexander addressed Parliament in a speech from the throne outlining the government’s policies for the coming session. The king and queen, joined by the king’s brother, Prince Constantijn, and his wife, Princess Laurenteen, then waved to the crowds from the balcony from the Noordeinde Palace.
