King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were welcomed on May 10th to Philadelphia’s city hall by the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter. Swedish colonists had arrived in Philadelphia five decades before William Penn, the city’s founder. A trip to Independence Hall to see the Liberty Bell also took place as well as a stop at the American Swedish Historical Museum in south Philadelphia.
