KING CARL XVI GUSTAF AND QUEEN SILVIA OF SWEDEN IN PHILADELPHIA

King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia were welcomed on May 10th to Philadelphia’s city hall by the city’s mayor, Michael Nutter.  Swedish colonists had arrived in Philadelphia five decades before William Penn, the city’s founder.  A trip to Independence Hall to see the Liberty Bell also took place as well as a stop at the American Swedish Historical Museum in south Philadelphia.  The king and queen are on a visit the U.S. to mark the 375th anniversary of the founding of New Sweden in present-day Delaware.  Photos by Getty Images.
