The Swedish royal family, headed by King Carl XVI Gustaf presided over the awarding of the Nobel Prizes in Stockholm Sweden on December 10, 2012. Each year, on the anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel, awards in Chemistry, Literature, Medicine and Physics are given in a formal ceremony presided over by the Swedish monarch. The Nobel laureates then join the royal family for a Nobel banquet gala held at Stockholm’s Town Hall. In attendance in this year’s glittering gala were King Carl XVI Gustaf, Queen Silvia, and their children: Crown Princess Victoria (and her husband, Prince Daniel), Prince Carl Philip, and Princess Madeleine.
