THE DIAMOND JUBILEE CONCERT AT BUCKINGHAM PALACE ATTENDED BY QUEEN ELIZABETH II

A crowd of thousands, including 10,000 ticket holders, packed the front of Buckingham Palace around the Queen Victoria Memorial where a Diamond Jubilee Concert was held on June 4, 2012 to celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s  sixty years on the throne.  A star-studded array of musicians performed before the Queen, members of the royal family and the enthusiastic crowds.  The Queen looked moved at one point of the celebration when reference was made by Prince Charles to an ill Prince Philip recuperating in hospital.   The Prince of Wales told the crowd, “The only sad thing about this evening is that my father couldn’t be here with us, because unfortunately, he has taken unwell.”  At that, the crowd, urged by the prince, let out a large cheer for the Duke of Edinburgh.  The evening ended with a spectacular display of fireworks.  Photos by Getty Images.
