Members of the Swedish royal family attended the funeral Count Carl Johan Bernadotte (1916-2012) at Bastad Church on May 14, 2012 in Bastad, Sweden. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden was accompanied by Queen Silvia, Crown Princess Victoria, and Prince Daniel. Also in attendance were Prince Henrik and Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, and her sisters , the former Queen Anne Marie of Greece and Princess Benedikte. The late count was born Prince Carl Johan of Sweden, the youngest child of the future King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden and of his first wife, Princess Margaret of Connaught. The princess was a daughter of the Duke of Connaught, who was the third son of Queen Victoria. Prince Carl Johan renounced his right to the Swedish throne as well as his title upon his marriage to a commoner in 1946. In 1951, Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg granted Carl Johan the title, Count of Wisborg. The count married again in 1987, the Countess Gunilla Wachtmeister. Count Carl Johan Bernadotte was the maternal uncle of Queen Margrethe II and the paternal uncle of King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden. Photos by Corbis and Getty Images.
