On May 14, 1962, the Infante Juan Carlos married Princess Sophia of Greece, the eldest daughter of King Paul and Queen Frederika. The couple wed in Athens in a Roman Catholic ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Denis, and in a Greek Orthodox ceremony at the Metropolitan Cathedral. Princess Sophia wore gown by the Greek designer Jean Dessés, and a veil worn previously worn her mother at her wedding. In 1975, the couple ascended the throne of Spain and became King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia. The couple have three children, Elena, Cristina and Felipe and six grandchildren.
