QUEEN ELIZABETH II AND THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH IN GREENWICH TO OPEN THE RESTORED CUTTY SARK

Amidst inclement weather, Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh, on April 25, 2012, attended at Greenwich, the opening to the restored Cutty Sark Tea Clipper.  Since 2006, the ship had been closed to the public.  In 2007, the merchant ship suffered damage during a fire.  Now, five years later, the Cutty Sark has finally reopened after extensive renovations.   Besides visiting the Cutty Sark, Queen Elizabeth II also inspected the royal barge, ‘Gloriana,’ the first royal barge to be built in 100 years.  It will feature prominently in the Diamond Jubilee festivities in June this year.   The queen and the duke also visited the National Maritime Museum where she opened the River Pageant Exhibition.  Photos by Getty Images and Bauer Griffin.
