THE QUEEN APPOINTS THE DUCHESS OF CORNWALL DAME GRAND CROSS OF THE ROYAL VICTORIAN ORDER

On April 9, 2012, the seventh anniversary of her wedding to the Prince of Wales, Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall was a named a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order by her mother-in-law, Queen Elizabeth II.   This is the highest female rank in the Royal Victorian Order.  It is a personal gift by the Queen in recognition of the duchess’s “personal” service to the monarchy.   Founded in 1896 by Queen Victoria, the Royal Victorian Order is meant to reward personal service to the monarch.  Photos by Getty Images.
