The newest member of Britain’s royal family, Catherine, the Duchess of Cambridge, celebrates her 30th birthday on January 9, 2012. Celebrations for the milestone are muted, with palace officials describing it as “low-key and private.” She is reportedly going to enjoy an 80s themed party complete including karaoke singing. Since her much-covered wedding to Prince William in April 2011, the duchess has played a supporting role to her husband and began immersing herself in her royal role, including accompanying the prince on an official visit to Canada in the summer. As the new year unfolds and Catherine has entered her thirties, questions will undoubtedly come up as to when the duchess will be providing Queen Elizabeth II with a great-grandchild. The focus will be on Catherine as well this year as she helps the royals celebrate a special milestone, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
