QUEEN ELIZABETH II MEETS WITH ONE OF AUSTRALIA’S MOST DECORATED SOLDIERS & RECIPIENT OF THE VICTORIA CROSS

Queen Elizabeth II met with Australian Army Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith at Buckingham Palace on November 15, 2011.  Corporal Ben Roberts-Smith is one of the most decorated of Australia’s soldiers.  He was awarded the Victoria Cross earlier this year.  The Victoria Cross, which takes precedence over other decorations, is the highest military decoration awarded for bravery in the face of the enemy.   Thirty-three year old Corporal Roberts-Smith said of his meeting with the Queen, “Obviously she speaks to quite a lot of soldiers, so she was interested in Afghanistan and she has a good grasp of what’s happening there. I think that her reaction was, she was just glad that we all came home.”  He also added that, “She is everything that everyone says she is. She’s very, just a lovely lady.”
