It has been ten years since Crown Prince Haakon of Norway married Mette-Marit Tjessem Hoiby on August 25, 2001. There were some concerns about Mette-Marit becoming the wife of the Crown Prince because she was a single mother but in the decade since she has been Crown Princess, Mette-Marit has proven herself to be a valuable member of Norway’s royal family. Haakon and Mette-Marit were married at Olso Cathedral. Among the guests present were members of Europe’s royal families. The bride wore a gown in silk crepe, its design stood out for its elegant simplicity. The couple have two children, Princess Ingrid Alexandra (b. 2003) and Prince Sverre Magnus (b. 2005).
