POPE BENEDICT XVI OFFICIALLY WELCOMED TO MADRID BY KING JUAN CARLOS & QUEEN SOFIA

Pope Benedict XVI was officially welcomed to Madrid by King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain.  The Pope has arrived in Madrid to attend World Youth Day which is a gathering sponsored by the Catholic Church for the youth of the world, celebrating the Catholic faith.  World Youth day is held every two or three years in different cities.   This year’s venue is in Madrid and Spain’s capital city is hosting 1 million youths.   The Pontiff was welcomed at Madrid’s Barajas Airport by the King and Queen.  It is Pope Benedict XVI’s third official visit to Spain.
