COUNTDOWN TO ZARA PHILLIPS’ WEDDING: PORTRAITS OF PRINCESS ANNE’S WEDDING, 1973

PRINCESS ANNE MARRIED LT. MARK PHILLIPS ON NOVEMBER 14, 1973 AT WESTMINSTER ABBEY

As Zara Phillips is shortly to be married, it’s fitting to take a look back at the wedding of her parents.  Princess Anne and Lt. (later Capt.)  Mark Phillips were married on November 14, 1973 at Westminster Abbey, which also happened to be the 25th birthday of the bride’s older brother, Prince Charles.  For her wedding, Anne wore a high necked, Tudor style gown with distinctive trumpet sleeves in white silk, created by Maureen Baker.  Princess Anne’s wedding veil was secured by in place by the Russian Fringe Tiara, the same one her mother, the Queen, wore when she married in 1947.
