IT’S OFF TO POLO FOR WILLIAM & CATHERINE AT THE SANTA BARBARA POLO & RACQUET CLUB, SATURDAY, JULY 9, 2011
On the second day of their visit to California, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge arrived by helicopter in Santa Barbara county for a spot of polo at the exclusive Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club. The couple looked smart, with William sporting white shirt, white trousers, dark brown loafers and a dark blue blazer. His wife, Catherine, wore another Jenny Packham creation, this time it was a silver and marble-grey hand-painted silk chinoiserie dress. The Duchess matched this with a gold clutch bag and L.K. Bennett sandals.
Hundreds of spectators joined the couple, paying big sums to see William and Catherine. Tickets ranged from $400 to $4,000 and the charity polo match took place to raise funds for The American Friends of the Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. The Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club, which is celebrating its 100th anniversary, has hosted some of the best players and also some of the best matches in the world. Prince William was pleased to be playing polo at the venue, saying, “My father, the Prince of Wales, and my brother, Harry, were as green as that grass outside when I told them I’d be here today.” William continued, “Catherine and I have had a busy few days – so the prospect of being able to let loose this afternoon is wonderful for me.”
