THE ROYAL WEDDING IN MONACO: DAY ONE: THE CIVIL CEREMONY

In the throne of the Prince’s Palace in Monaco, the civil wedding ceremony of Prince Albert II and Miss Charlene Wittstock took place on July 1st.  Rumors have surrounded the couple in recent days with reports that Charlene was attempting to flee to South Africa from Nice Airport and that her passport had been confiscated.  But on Friday, July 1st, Charlene became Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene of Monaco as she wed the sovereign prince, Albert II, in a civil ceremony.  There were 80 guests attending the ceremony, including Prince Albert’s sisters, Caroline and Stephanie.  On Saturday, July 2nd, the Catholic ceremony takes place in front of a much larger group of guests in the courtyard of the Prince’s Palace.
