MONACO’S PREVIOUS ROYAL WEDDINGS, Part I: GRACE & RAINIER, APRIL 1956, CIVIL WEDDING

PRINCE RAINIER III AND GRACE KELLY MARRY CIVILLY AT THE THRONE ROOM OF THE PRINCE’S PALACE, MONACO, APRIL 18, 1956

Though news reports have recently declared that Prince Albert of Monaco’s fiancee, Charlene Wittstock, has had second thoughts about marrying, it would appear that the wedding is still scheduled to take place.  The reports of a break-up have spurred vehement denials from the palace.  The civil wedding is to take place on July 1st and the religious one on July 2nd.   The wedding of Albert, 53 and Charlene, 33, will be the grandest nuptial in Monaco since the prince’s parents, Rainier III and the former Grace Kelly, wed in April 1956.   Here are some highlights from the civil wedding of Prince Rainier III and Grace Kelly which took place on April 18, 1956 in the Throne Room of the Prince’s Palace in Monaco.  For the occasion, Grace wore a rose beige lace suit and matching hat.
