BALMORAL: THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY’S SCOTTISH HOLIDAY RETREAT

Like many families, Britain’s royals also cherish their summer holidays.  For the British royal family, the Balmoral estate in Scotland is a favorite destination for the months of August, September and early October.   Purchased by Queen Victoria in 1848, the estate covers 50,000 acres in Royal Deeside.   Balmoral Castle, designed in the Scots baronial style, was completed in the 1850s.   Several other properties dot the estate including Birkhall, which is used by Prince Charles, and his wife, Camilla, when they visit the estate.  Many generations of Britain’s royal families from Queen Victoria onwards, have enjoyed the tranquil surroundings of Balmoral and this year is likely to prove no exception.
